A real-time counter of Earth’s net human population (births minus deaths). The count is an estimate based on census data, and it increases by eight thousand per hour, 133 per minute, or slightly more than two per second. The human population increased by over a third (two billion more) in the last twenty-five years, and is still growing by approximately seventy million per year. For example, the artist’s 1999 album “Six Billion Humans Can’t Be Wrong” was rereleased in 2021 and had to be renamed to “Eight Billion Humans Can’t Be Wrong.” During the artist’s lifetime the human population has more than doubled (increased by 160%), and per capita consumption has also more than doubled, multiplying the impact of our population growth and causing unimaginable suffering for nonhumans.
