16. Nine Movements for Mutuogenesis
Composed with stretched guitar fragments and synthetisers, two themes stretch at different lengths, unsynchronised, sometimes meeting gracefully, sometimes proving harmonically inappropriate: nine chances, an image that is focused one moment and blurred another, friends meeting again from the synthetic chaos. This soundtrack has been inspired by Guillaume de Machaud’s ‘La fin est mon commencement’ (My end is my beginning): ‘My end is my beginning / My end is my beginning / And my beginning my end. / This is truly my tenor [or, that which I hold on to], / My end is my beginning. / My third line three times only / Goes back on itself and so finishes. / My end is my beginning / And my beginning my end.’
